The unfortunate reality of individuals now served by social service programs and schools is that they are reported to be more volatile and subject to acting out than ever before. While we may assume these characteristics are a reflection of society, the fact that the individual staff frequently must stand face to face with an "about to explode" person, mandates that they be trained in how to respond to these individuals.
Since 1982, JKM Training, Inc. has developed and delivered a comprehensive training program for crisis intervention and behavior management. This “state of the art” program is now utilized in schools and social services agencies throughout the United States, as well as in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Guam.
The Safe Crisis Management training program has as its fundamental purpose the prevention and safe resolution of explosive behavior. Whether they are working with oppositional and defiant students or emotionally disordered clients, SCM provides your staff with a capacity to prevent or safely control dangerous situations.
The SCM curriculum provides a comprehensive continuum of prevention (primary),
intervention (secondary/emergency) and post intervention (tertiary) strategies focusing on:
Positive Behavioral Interventions
Proactive
Prevention
Proven
De-escalation Techniques
A
“Last Resort” Physical Intervention System
Post Intervention Strategies
All SCM Physical Interventions Have Been Reviewed For Safety By A
Nationally Known Forensic Pathologist & A Physical Medicine Specialist!!
The physical technology which has been designed to provide various options to meet the differences of size, weight, gender and client/student specific problems has been reviewed and endorsed by experts in physical and forensic medicine. All physical techniques are designed to ensure client safety. The SCM Program is congruent with CWLA "Best Practice Guidelines".
The
Safe Crisis
Management Difference!
SCM is more comprehensive in its theory, prevention, non-physical, physical and post incident counseling than other programs.
SCM is based on solid principles of human growth and development and safe physical intervention.
SCM emphasizes strength based non-physical intervention. We want to reduce the frequency of physical interventions.
SCM teaches how to use the “Least Restrictive Alternative” in working with problem behavior.
The SCM Instructor Training Program is a rigorous, five-day learning experience during which participants are exposed to the theory and management scheme, non-physical and physical, that is the core of SCM. Participants will be exposed to a variety of supportive information and concepts central to providing instruction in SCM. Successful completion of the program is contingent on passing both a written test and a physical skills test. Participants will receive a manual that provides a model curriculum for SCM staff training, which contains lesson plans, handouts and activities for each concept presented in the SCM participant’s workbook. In addition, it contains information on conducting staff refresher trainings, and a CD Rom which includes the SCM Staff Training slideshow and SCM physical interventions video.

They know first hand the reality of today’s clients/students.

"SCM is an excellent training program which appropriately focuses on reducing the need for restraint by understanding the dynamics proceeding acting-out behavior and meeting the needs of our clients prior to negative behavior escalating. SCM also provides staff with physical skills to safely manage behavior that would cause risk of harm to self or others." ~ Charles Cogshell, Residential Coordinator "This has been bar-none the most extensive and needed training that I have had the opportunity to attend. I would recommend it to everyone!!" ~ Richard Chapman, Case Manager "The strongest feature I would have to say is the expansion and furthering of my understanding for my clients. The additional tools that I received this week will benefit both my clients and I as we grow together to achieve our goals." ~ Karl Gast, Mental Health Worker/Unit Trainer "By far the strongest feature was the instructors and their amazing grasp of the knowledge.
