Q: Why should I be trained in SCM?
Q: Who should attend our trainings?
School teachers, detention workers, group home staff, correctional workers, alternative school teachers, special education teachers, wrap around staff, school bus drivers, foster parents, community workers, adolescent and adult psychiatric workers, drug rehabilitation workers, residential care workers and anyone who works with at-risk individuals!
Q: What makes the SCM program better than all the rest?
SCM training is recognized in numerous states as a state-of-the-art crisis intervention behavior management program.
SCM is more comprehensive in its theory, prevention, non-physical, physical and post incident counseling than other
programs. SCM is based on solid principles of human growth and development and safe physical management.
Client/student safety is the paramount concern. Experts in forensic and physical medicine endorse the SCM physical
techniques.
Our trainers have advanced academic degrees relative to the field of children and youth education and human service. In addition, every trainer is an experienced front line practitioner who has personally been involved in dealing with out of control behavior. JKM Training can boast that our trainers bring not only knowledge and experience to the training floor, but also a tested interactive curriculum that ensures learning outcomes. We guarantee that you will leave our seminars with an increased understanding of acting out behavior and a cadre of practical responses that are appropriate for the variety of behaviors that will be presented.
Q: What does SCM Training stress?
Positive behavioral interventions that empower individuals with the opportunity to regain control of their own behavior.
Proactive prevention through understanding individual crisis behavior and the dynamics of escalation, using fundamental management of the environment/program, and providing the support needed to avoid behavior incidents.
De-escalation techniques that are applicable to a wide range of settings and situations.
A “last resort” physical intervention system that has been medically reviewed for safety, and can be tailored to the size, weight and gender of the individual. SCM keeps client/student and staff safety as the paramount concern while ensuring that the dignity of the individual is preserved.
Post intervention strategies that resolve, record and restore individuals and their environment.
Q: What are the SCM Training principles?
Adults are in charge and have responsibility for ensuring the safety of those in care.
Aggressive misbehavior by individuals is misapplied coping that can provide an opportunity for positive growth and development with appropriate intervention.
Physical intervention is a crisis management strategy. When used it must be applied based upon the principle of “Least Restrictive Alternative”.
Social serving organizations and schools have an affirmative responsibility to equip staff and teachers with the capacity to deal with aggressive misbehavior.
The greatest tool in managing misbehavior is “relationship”.
Q: If I become an SCM Instructor, who can I train?
The successful participant is certified to train personnel of their organization, which sponsored his/her attendance in the program. This certification is not a license to train privately. SCM is a copyright protected program and may not be delivered to any audience outside of your sponsoring organization.
Q: What materials do I get at the Certification training?
The SCM manual is provided as a resource to those individuals who satisfactorily complete the SCM Instructor Training Program. This manual provides the instructor with a model curriculum for SCM staff training. It contains lesson plans, handouts and activities for each concept presented in the SCM Participant’s Workbook. In addition, it contains information on conducting staff refresher trainings, and a CD Rom which includes the SCM Staff Training slideshow and SCM Physical Interventions Video. You receive all this plus the Instructor’s Edition SCM Participant’s Workbook.
Q: Once I’m certified, do I have to come back to be recertified?
Yes. JKM Training, Inc. considers the Instructor’s Certification, which is earned on completion of the five-day program, valid for one calendar year. Attending one of the annual Recertification Training Programs offered can renew this certification. In addition to the renewal of instructor status, the recertification training program also provides information and technique updates. While some locales have no statutory or regulatory requirements regarding an annual recertification, JKM Training assumes recertification to be the professional responsibility of instructors to ensure the training they deliver is correct and current with related developments in the field. JKM Training stands behind the SCM program contingent on its delivery by a JKM Certified SCM Instructor and provided that the curricula is delivered correctly, intact, and without additions.
